Batata Vada (Fried Spicy Potato dumplings)

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  1. Boil the potatoes till it become soft, peel and smash them and keep aside.
  2. Blend together the green chilies, garlic and ginger to a fine paste.
  3. Mix together the potatoes, onions, ginger-garlic-chilli paste, coriander leaves, sugar, lime juice and salt to taste.
  4. Heat a little oil and add the mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  5. When the mustard crackles, remove from heat and add to the potato mixture and mix well.
  6. Make a smooth batter with the bengal gram flour,salt to taste, cumin seeds,red chilli powder and turmeric powder.
  7. Add a teaspoon of hot oil when making the batter.
  8. Let the batter remain thick.
  9. Divide the potato mixture into equal sized portions ( the size of a lemon).
  10. Dip each ball in the batter and deep fry till golden brown in color.
  11. Serve hot with green chutney
